Payment Methods

Payment Methods Policy

This policy explains how payments are taken at halsworthhayes.shop, who processes them, how your card data is protected, and your rights when something goes wrong. The store is operated by Secure Payment Ltd, trading as Halsworth & Hayes, a company registered in England and Wales under Companies House number 16138815, with its registered office at Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA. Any questions about a payment may be sent to contact@halsworthhayes.shop.

  • Credit and debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro and Discover.
  • Digital wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay.
  • PayPal: charged to your PayPal balance, linked bank account or any card stored in your PayPal wallet.

Buy Now, Pay Later instalment options such as Klarna and Clearpay are not currently offered. Should they be added in future, this page will be updated and the option will appear at checkout.

Payment processors

We work with two regulated payment service providers:

  • Shopify Payments, a service of Shopify International Limited, operated on the Stripe payment infrastructure. This handles all card and digital wallet transactions taken through the standard checkout.
  • PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., which handles transactions selected as “Pay with PayPal”.

Both providers are independently authorised and regulated and are subject to the requirements of the Financial Conduct Authority (or, for PayPal, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier in Luxembourg passporting into the United Kingdom).

Currency and multi-currency display

The contractual currency for every transaction is pounds sterling (GBP). To make browsing easier, our storefront can display prices in your local currency through Shopify Markets; the conversion uses the live foreign-exchange rate served by Shopify at the time of checkout. Your card or wallet may apply its own conversion rate or fee where the underlying account is held in a different currency. Settlement to Halsworth & Hayes is always in GBP.

VAT and taxes

Orders shipped within the United Kingdom are charged at the prevailing UK VAT rate (currently 20%), which is included in the displayed retail price where applicable. For orders shipped outside the United Kingdom, UK VAT is removed at checkout. Destination VAT, GST/HST or sales tax may then apply on import as set out in the Shipping & Delivery Policy; where the EU IOSS scheme applies, the relevant import VAT is collected at checkout.

Authorisation and capture

When you place an order, your card or wallet is authorised for the order total: the funds are reserved against your available balance but are not yet taken. The actual capture of funds normally occurs when the order is dispatched. Certain transactions flagged as elevated risk by Stripe Radar are captured immediately at the time the order is placed, in line with industry practice for fraud control.

3-D Secure 2 (3DS2)

To protect cardholders under the EMV 3DS2 framework and the Strong Customer Authentication requirements of the Payment Services Regulations 2017, our checkout requests 3-D Secure authentication wherever your issuing bank supports it. You may be asked to confirm the transaction in your bank’s mobile application or via a one-time passcode.

PCI DSS compliance and card data handling

Card details are entered directly into hosted fields served by our processors, never into our own systems. Halsworth & Hayes does not receive, transmit or store your full primary account number, expiry date or CVV. Both Shopify Payments and PayPal are certified to PCI DSS Level 1, the highest level of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.

Anti-fraud screening

Every transaction is scored in real time by Shopify Fraud Protect and Stripe Radar, which combine machine-learning models with rules covering velocity, geolocation and device fingerprinting. Card transactions are additionally checked against the issuing bank’s Address Verification Service (AVS) and a CVV match is required. Orders that exceed a defined risk threshold or value may be placed on manual review; we may contact you to verify the order before dispatch and reserve the right to cancel and refund any transaction we cannot satisfactorily verify.

Failed payments

A payment may fail for several reasons, including issuer rejection, insufficient funds, expired card, an incorrect CVV or an abandoned 3-D Secure challenge. When a payment fails, no contract of sale is formed, no goods are reserved and no charge is taken. Any momentary “pending” entry that appears on your statement is an authorisation hold which the issuer will release automatically.

Pre-authorisations and holds

Authorisation holds released by us, or that we never capture, are released by the issuing bank on its own timescale, typically within 7 days. We have no ability to accelerate that release; if it has not cleared, please contact your bank with the authorisation reference shown on your statement.

Refunds

For Payment Card Industry reasons, refunds are issued exclusively back to the original payment method; we cannot refund to a different card, account or method. Refunds processed through Shopify Payments typically appear within 5–10 working days; PayPal refunds are usually instant. Detailed refund timings, eligibility and the cooling-off right are set out in our Refund Policy and Returns & Exchanges Policy.

Disputes and chargebacks

If something is wrong with your order, please contact contact@halsworthhayes.shop first; almost every issue is resolved more quickly through us than through a chargeback. Where a chargeback is raised, we co-operate fully with your bank and the card scheme, and we provide them with proof of delivery, AVS/CVV results, 3DS authentication, IP address and order metadata. Chargebacks shown to be fraudulent or abusive are reported to the processor and may be referred to law enforcement and to credit-reference agencies.

Identity verification (KYC) for high-value orders

For high-value orders, or where our fraud screening flags a transaction for additional review, we may ask you to complete a light-touch identity check — for example by uploading a passport or driving-licence image and a recent utility bill via our secure verification portal. We will never ask you to send identity documents, full card numbers, PINs or your CVV by email, SMS or social media. If you receive such a request claiming to come from us, please disregard it and forward it to contact@halsworthhayes.shop.

Receipts and VAT invoices

An itemised order confirmation is emailed automatically once your payment is authorised. Once Halsworth & Hayes is registered for UK VAT, a full VAT invoice is available on request to contact@halsworthhayes.shop, quoting your order number.

Promotional pricing and discount codes

Discount codes are issued under defined terms and may be single-use, time-limited or restricted to specified collections, customers or order values. Codes must be entered before payment is taken and cannot be applied retroactively to dispatched orders. Discounts cannot be combined with other offers unless expressly stated, and we reserve the right to withdraw any promotion in case of obvious pricing error or abuse.

Gift cards

Halsworth & Hayes gift cards are issued through Shopify and delivered electronically. Gift cards do not expire, may be used in part across multiple orders and apply to the goods total before any shipping charges. Gift cards are not redeemable for cash, cannot be reloaded and are subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Subscriptions and recurring payments

We do not currently offer subscription products or any other form of recurring billing. Every order placed at Halsworth & Hayes is a single, one-off purchase.

Storing payment methods

If you choose to use Shop Pay, your card details are tokenised and stored in the Shop Pay vault operated by Shopify, not on our servers. Saving a payment method is entirely optional and is controlled from your Shop or PayPal account; you may remove a stored method at any time. We never enrol you in card-on-file storage without your consent.

Sanctions screening

Halsworth & Hayes complies with United Kingdom financial sanctions administered by the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI), as well as the equivalent regimes of the European Union, the United States and the United Nations. Orders identified as involving a sanctioned individual, entity or jurisdiction are cancelled and refunded, and where required by law are reported to OFSI.
